Happy last day of the longest month ever! Is it just me or did January feel like it was 3 months packed into one?? Well anyway, Happy humpday everyone! I'm excited to share a kinda fashion/ blogger help post with you all today. When I started my blog, I didn't own a "professional" camera. Mike and I used my phone a lot the time to make do! With the cameras in phones nowadays, it's so easy to do a mini shoot with you phone and have it come out looking amazing. I'm a huge believer in working with what you have and I'm sharing some tips I've learned along the way for getting content using just your phone! Good lighting can make a photo go from eh to YAS. I think this is crucial in a phone shoot since the quality is already not the best. Good lighting will help brighten the image and make things look a bit more clear. I also am a big fan of shadow play and this is totally do-able on a phone! One type of lighting to be careful with is harsh, direct sunlight. If you know how to work it, then go for it, but if not, probably best to find some shade. From my experience, if I’m not going for a specific look, harsh light usually creates bad shadowing on my outfits and/or body. In the blogging community, I’ve been told I’m minimal in my photo quantity. I believe you should have a minimum of 5 and the more the merrier. I’m not one to have a post and have 15+ images, just not my thing. This is why a phone shoot works for me sometimes. It’s easier for me to get a good solid 4-7 pictures from my phone with VARIETY! This is huge! No one wants to see you standing there in 4/5 of your pictures. I’m sometimes guilty of that, tbh. Angles can be your best friend, once you find which work best for you. Also, it’s a great way to showcase your look in different ways! Last but never least, filters! And no, not the cute dog ones. Filters can really help your pictures if maybe they’re a bit fuzzy or the colors aren’t what you hoped for. Even if the pictures come out great, adding some filters can give it such a different vibe! I say simple on my filters and use it mainly to bring out the lost color. There’s so many apps to add cool vintage effects and colors. A few of my fav are VSCO, Afterlight, and RNI films! Do you ever feel like some of your best outfits are when you just throw things on? Sometimes, I end up loving my look so much that I want to shoot a few pictures to have on retainer! Nothing's better than having content ready to use.
Shooting with a phone has made a world of difference. Obviously the images aren't as crisp compared to a camera, but they're pretty damn close! And if you're thinking of incorporating a tripod, my suggestion is YES. It's scary and intimidating at first, but just remember why you're doing it, how great the outcome will be, and it'll all be worth it. Promise! Have you ever used your phone for a shoot? What are some of your tips and tricks?!
