How to Survive Engagement Photos

10/5/2016

Engagement photos: A photo shoot solely to capture the love of two people getting married... How sweet. Sounds like an effortless event filled with love, nice outfits, and cool scenery.
NOT.
Just kidding (kind of).
I'm not going to lie, it is an amazing experience but it actually requires a lot of effort. I'm sure about 80% of couples that have undergone this event can agree that it can get very stressful, very quickly.

Planning a wedding, working full time, and trying to find time to relax is definitely a balancing act. I always like to remind myself, to tackle one thing at a time and the rest will fall into place as they're meant to.

With that being said,

A few important things to remember:
  1. Book a photographer that fits your style as well as your wallet.
  2. Pick a location that just makes your heart melt.
  3. Dress in a way that represents you but also stay comfortable.

But for real, here are actual things to remember:
  1. This is all happening because you love one another, so don't let it cause extra stress and fights.
  2. The photos will turn out way better than what you're imagining in your head, you are your own worst critic.
  3. BREATHE and have fun, you're getting freaking married!

Items to bring with you that can save the day:
  1. Extra makeup for touch ups
  2. Dry shampoo (Helps with volume too, double win)
  3. A brush (Those damn stray hairs)
  4. A small towel (Depending on the location and weather, this definitely comes in handy to dab any forehead sweat... Let's all be honest, it happens.)

One major thing I did that helped more than anything was tackling all of my appointments the day before! I got my hair blow dried, eyebrows threaded, and nails done the day before our shoot. Trying to fit all of those appointments in the same day of your shoot is equivalent to trying to make your day as shitty as possible.

Also, have your outfit(s) ready with all accessories put aside. If you wait until the last minute to grab outfits, shoes, jewelry, or whatever else you have planned, you'll most likely forget it as you're running out the door.

The morning of consisted of a good breakfast while watching an episode of law and order (duh), a moisturizing face mask, and drinking insane amounts of water.
I tried to make the day as relaxing as possible so I didn't look like Helga from Hey Arnold in my photos.
Nothing's worse than fake smiles that scream, "I LOVE STRESS AND STRESS LOVES ME" in your engagement photos. Oh God, no.
